NUJS hosts its 13th Annual Convocation

The 13th convocation of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences witnessed the graduation of 119 students from the BA LLB (Hons.) course, 37 students from LLM course and 5 students from the PhD course. The event witnessed the presence of the Chancellor's nominee Honourable Justice A.K Sikri along with the Vice Chancellor Honourable Justice Amit Talukdar and the chief guest Prof. Dr. Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee.

The ceremony started with the procession led by the registar Ms. Shikha Sen and was followed by the singing of the national anthem.

The welcome address was delivered by the Interim Vice Chancellor Honourable Justice Amit Talukdar who thanked the state government for the efforts undertaken for the betterment of the university and for the presence of the state law minister throughout the convocation. He then mentioned two prominent student achievements of Mihika Poddar bagging the Rhodes Scholarship and Pranjal Sinha for becoming the youngest JAMS- Weinstein fellow. This was followed by the Vice Chancellor asking the Chancellor present Honourable Justice A.K Sikri to formally declare the convocation open.

The Chancellor present, Honourable Justice A.K Sikri then began handing over the degrees to students who had qualified in their PhD, LLM and BA LLB (Hons.) examinations after which the gold medals for acadmeic excellence and the awards instituted by the Student Juridical Association for student leadership, excellence in mooting and debating, sportsmanship and quizzing were awarded.

The chief guest for the event was Prof. Dr. Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee, Vice Chancellor of University of Calcutta whose address focused on the excellence in the quality of faculty in the college, the relevance of the law curriculum in the real world and her words of advice of the graduating students. This was followed by the address of the Chancellor.

Honourable Justice A.K Sikri started his speech reflecting on his association with NUJS as a part of the Selection Committee, delivering special lectures to students and having interns from the law school. He then went on to reflect on how a majority of the medals were won by women and how it is a positive sign of progress from when he was a student. He then reflected on his experiences in law school and specifically the phase just after graduating after which he offered his words of advice to the graduates.

We thank Justice A.K Sikri and the chief guest for gracing the occasion with their presence and the efforts of the administrative staff and faculty in conducting yet another successful edition of the convocation. We would also like to congratulate the graduates on their academic feat and wish them all success.
